Just steps from the magnificent square of Santa Maria Novella is one of the oldest pharmacies in the world: the Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, which owes its creation to the Dominican Friars who settled in Florence shortly after 1221.

Today, under the direction of Eugenio Alphandery, the tradition has endured with success. Production is limited and controlled with extreme care. The best quality materials are used, and the founding Friars’ artisanal methods are always meticulously followed. The product line include eaux de cologne, eaux de toilette, room fragrances with natural essences, nourishing pollen face creams, bath and body milks and lotions, shaving products for men, iris or lavender sachets, “potpourris” to bring fragrance to closets and rooms, and the famous soaps made by 19th century machines, which are each pressed and packaged by hand.
